The part time 0.7FTE permanent position is reporting to the Community Geographic Team (CGT) Program Manager, the Mental Health Consultant works collaboratively with multi-disciplinary team members to ensure success in the areas of coaching, mentoring, education and consultation in children’s mental health service delivery to professionals involved with the Community Geographic Team project. The Community Geographic Team enhances capacity to both mental health and allied health professionals who provide treatment and assessment to children and their families in the north and central east zones of Alberta.

The Mental Health Consultant has a clinical knowledge base in children’s mental health assessment and treatment, and proven complex clinical decision making skills necessary to perform as an effective consultant in the field of children’s mental health. The Mental Health Consultant supports the well-being of children and families by providing timely education, training, and consultation to professionals who are working with children’s mental health issues.

This flexible position is geared to the personal and professional strengths of the employee to focus on providing either children’s mental health education, consultation or both. Education duties may include preparation and delivery of content in areas relating to children’s mental health, consultation duties may include consultation on specific children and families to professionals working in the region. These duties may be performed in person, through videoconference, or teleconference. Team support and training are provided.


  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Psychiatric Nursing or Occupational Therapy
  • Current registration with an appropriate professional body
  • Experience in a children’s mental health treatment setting
  • Demonstrated competence in children’s mental health assessment, diagnosis, and treatment
  • Established expertise in an evidence-based treatment modality is preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching and mentoring skills
  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable vehicle, as travel is required
  • Basic technology skills are an asset but training is provided.


$40.57 – $51.49 per hour depending on education and experience
