Job Title: Part-Time Project Coordinator (SOSD and Career Trek Day)

We are looking for a dynamic and committed individual who is passionate about children’s educational programming and career development.

Career Trek is a not-for-profit organization offering comprehensive career development programs across Manitoba. Career Trek helps young Manitobans to discover their full potential by providing them with hands-on learning opportunities designed to develop the skills, knowledge, and values necessary for future success. These experiences help to increase educational attainment, career satisfaction, and community stewardship levels.

This afterschool program is a project run out of the Seven Oaks School Division (SOSD) that runs for 12 weeks between January and May, 2018. 60 children from the SOSD will attend programming at the University of Manitoba, The University of Winnipeg, and Red River College. Reporting to the Program Manager, the Project Coordinator will assist with the administration, implementation and operation of the SOSD Project and Career Trek Day.

This is a part-time term position with an anticipated 30-hour flexible work week, ideal for an individual interested in accumulating program management experience in a child-focused educational and career development setting.

The application deadline for the Project Coordinator position is November 17, 2017 with interviews and hiring taking place starting November 20, 2017.

Preference may be given to a past SOSD student or past Career Trek participant.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Administration :

  • Manage administrative operations; and
  • Coordinate campus staff meetings.

Supervision:

  • Supervise part-time staff members;
  • Assist the Program Manager with hiring, training, mentoring and evaluation processes; and
  • Model and encourage a high standard of professional conduct and an excellent work ethic with the aim of delivering the highest quality of service to maintain the good reputation of the organization.

Development:

  • Provide leadership to further Career Trek’s mission, vision, and statement of beliefs;
  • Maintain good working relationships with schools, post-secondary institutions and their respective units; and
  • Ensure all departmental expectations are met.

Implementation:

  • Ensure the continual safety of participants and staff by following Career Trek’s risk management guidelines;
  • Keep accurate track of participants’ attendance;
  • Verify all forms submitted by schools and families;
  • Ensure bus schedules and all pertinent information are distributed to the schools in a timely fashion;
  • Provide on-site supervision on weekdays at each participating campus;
  • Engage in open and positive communication with the Director of Programming, Campus Coordinator and staff;
  • Assist the Program Manager in implementing the program action plan – booking rooms and departments, purchasing equipment, supplies, etc.;
  • Assist the Program Manager with the coordination of any special events including the Celebration and Family Day.

Required Qualifications:

  • Post secondary education in a related field
  • Experienced in community based program delivery, preferably with children and youth;
  • Experience supervising part-time staff and volunteers;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • An approachable and professional demeanor;
  • CPR (Level C) certification;
  • Experience working on Apple Computers and Microsoft Office (desired, but not required);
  • Available Tuesday and Thursday evenings and;
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle

Position Details:

  • 30 hours per week
  • $15.50 per hour
  • January-May contract with possibility of extension
