Opening Statement

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is the largest provider of health services in Nova Scotia. We are over 22,000 employees who provide health care and support services in hospitals, health centres and community-based programs throughout Nova Scotia.

We are currently recruiting Registered Nurses for permanent full-time and Casual positions with various departments across Nova Scotia Health Authority. The number of positions and the nature of the assignments that will be available have yet to be determined.

Sites within NSHA include:

  • Colchester-East Hants, Cumberland and Pictou
  • Annapolis Valley, South Shore and South West Nova Scotia
  • Halifax, Eastern Shore and West Hants
  • Cape Breton, Guysborough and Antigonish

Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process, critical thinking and problem solving skills to provide holistic care to individuals, families, groups, communities and populations across the life span.

The RN is responsible for the overall coordination and direction of nursing care. The RN provides clinical leadership particularly in complex or unpredictable patient/client care settings. The RN has the knowledge, skill and judgment needed to provide competent, evidenced based nursing practice. The RN is accountable for the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of the plan of care to achieve patient/client outcomes.

The RN supports the development of students and colleagues through acting as a preceptor and providing ongoing mentorship.

The RN contributes to the efficient and effective functioning of the unit, coordination of patient care and staffing.

The RN accepts responsibility for maintaining and continually enhancing competencies through ongoing professional development including participation in education programs, research and continuous quality activities. The RN practices according to the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses, the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia Standards of Nursing Practice, specialty standards as applicable and the policies and procedures of the Nova Scotia Health Authority. The RN is responsible and accountable for his/her nursing practice and conduct as defined by the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia and for ensuring that his/her registration is current and valid.

Responsibilities

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and eligible for registration in Nova Scotia
  • BLS-C (HCP) certification
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to work in a high stress environment
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
  • Successful Applicants are required to provide a criminal record check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) to People Services before starting employment and assume any associated costs as a condition of employment

Salary

Registered Nurse:
$32.6817 – $38.6306 hourly
($39.9824 hourly with 25 years RN experience)

Relocation

Successful candidates from outside Nova Scotia may be eligible for relocation assistance.
