Opening Statement

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Health Services Manager, the LPN provides nursing care independently to patients considered stable with predictable outcomes by applying nursing knowledge, critical thinking, and problem solving skills consistent with the LPN’s educational preparation. Assessing patient/client needs and providing nursing interventions within his/her scope of practice. As the acuity or complexity of care increases, the LPN works in collaboration with or under the guidance of a Registered Nurse, or medical practitioner, to provide consultation, guidance or direction for patients/clients considered unstable or with unpredictable outcomes. The LPN in the Neurology Clinic assists the physicians during clinic visits and performs assessments. The LPN may also work, within their scope of practice, in other Ambulatory Care Clinics as required.
The LPN accepts responsibility for maintaining and continually enhancing competencies through ongoing professional development, including participation in education programs, research and continuous quality activities. Practices within the LPN professional, legal and ethical standards and is accountable for actions and decisions. The LPN provides care within the scope of practice defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Nova Scotia and adheres to the policy and procedures of the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA). The LPN is responsible and accountable for ensuring that his/her registration is current and valid.

Qualifications

* Graduate of a recognized Licensed Practical Nursing course and current certification in Nova Scotia
* Competency in medication administration and a pharmacology course is required
* Minimum of 2 years recent neurology experience required
* BLS-C (HCP)
* Recent ambulatory care experience considered an asset
* Manual dexterity in performance of designated procedures
* Ability to follow verbal and/or written instructions
* Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills
* Able to work independently and as part of a team
* Computer skills preferred
* Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours of Work

*Permanent part-time (40%); 30 hours bi-weekly

Salary

Licensed Practical Nurse:
$23.5919 – $25.3375 hourly
