Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) provides sustainable safe and high quality health services that are accessible, people-centred, promote health and wellness and optimize the health of all Nova Scotians. This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.


Under the direction and mentorship of senior leaders within the portfolio you will be assigned work activities within the Finance portfolio. The Finance portfolio holds accountability for a diverse range of services in supporting our clients and stakeholders, including: registration, health records management, information technology applications, special projects, case costing, financial operations (general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, etc…), auditing, reporting, budgeting, business planning, business development & retail activities, decision support, payroll processing, research and restricted fund accounting.

Work activities will be derived and assigned as priorities arise in the portfolio, work activities will be focused process and service delivery improvements leveraging existing technology tools and systems. The financial analyst role is an important role across the finance portfolio, ensuring all processes and system technology is efficient and working to support stakeholders, customers, vendors, and employees. These positions have key relationships across the NSHA with Clinical & Administrative Managers and Directors, to support financial, payroll, budget and cost decisions. This position is assigned functional accountabilities to support the VP of Medicine and Integrated Health Services portfolio.

Demonstrating leadership behaviours and capabilities, consistent with LEADS in a Caring Environment framework, this position is accountable for:

* Following and supporting sound financial management through accurate processing, reconciliation, monitoring and reporting.
* Monitoring and analysis of physician stipends and payments and ensuring consistency in policy application
* Creating payment requests, tracking and monitoring for various physician programs, i.e. Hospitalists, On Call, Long Term Care, CEC’s, Medical Residents, etc.
* Assisting with the monthly forecast for the VP of Medicine portfolio.
* Performing ad hoc analysis as required including trend analysis, costing studies, benefit analysis, statistical comparisons, audits etc.
* Building strong working relationships with all employees within the VP Medicine portfolio.
* Developing working relationships with transactional staff, in coordination with technical, analytical and reporting responsibilities
* Other financial, accounting and information system related tasks are to be performed as assigned.


* Graduate of a recognized post-secondary business and/or accounting program
* Undergraduate degree preferred
* Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years strong functional system experience and knowledge of budget, corporate reporting, general accounting and financial analytics
* Possesses a solid understanding of financial processes and key performance indicators
* Excellent collaboration, verbal and written communication skills
* Strong analytical, problem solving and conceptual thinking skills
* Highly knowledgeable and proficient with Microsoft Excel
* Ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and work effectively under pressure with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail

Hours of Work

* Regular full-time position
* This position will be located in an NSHA office within the Central Zone


$49,523 – $61,904 annually
