Conduct regular safety audits on job sites throughout the lower mainland

  • Manage occupational related disability claims, return to work and injury management program
  • Conduct safety orientations for new hires
  • Coach and mentor co-workers and employees on job sites as it relates to Safety
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Department Managers on preventative safety measures
  • Provide recommendations to managers and employees as it relates to safe job procedures and safe work practices
  • Maintain BCCSA COR certification (conduct internal audit)
  • Work with the Joint Occupational Health and Safety representative and conduct investigations of work related incidents and assist Human Resources in the implementation and monitoring RTW programs
  • Act as a consultant to and chair the Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee meetings
  • Oversee First Aid courses, respirator fit testing and hearing/immunization tests
  • Be an active member on BC ARC Technical Advisory Committee and contribute to projects
  • Maintain training and certification database
  • Assess training needs for managers and employees and provide recommendations
  • Manage company fire safety program
  • Ensure the company OH&S manual is up to date and reviewed annually for accuracy
  • Qualifications

    • Completion of a diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety
    • 5-7 years of experience as a safety supervisor/manager
    • Certification in Level 2 First Aid
    • Extensive knowledge of all OH&S Legislation (including Workers Compensation Act), OHS guidelines, standards.
    • CSO Designation or equivalent
    • Respirator fit tester certified
    • Experience working with WorkSafeBC Occupational Safety Officers
    • WCB Claims management experience an asset
    • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite
    • Experience in the construction or restoration industry is extremely beneficial
    • Strong people skills and ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders (including but not limited to: senior managers, associates, third parties)
    • Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
    • Experience working with asbestos and other hazardous material is considered beneficial
    • Must have own vehicle and driver’s license
    • Clean criminal record as it relates to work

    Working Conditions

    • This position primarily reports out of Canstar’s Coquitlam head office
    • Hours of work are Monday – Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm
    • Working conditions vary from office work to job site visits
    • Travel to other Canstar locations will be required periodically (including Whistler Branch)
    • Some overtime may be required on a periodic basis
