The Ontario Cancer Registry (OCR) resides within CCO’s Information Technology/Information Management Division. It is a computerized database of information on all Ontario residents who have been newly diagnosed with cancer (“Incidence”) or who have died of cancer (“mortality”). All new cases of cancer are registered, except non-melanoma skin cancer. This information is used to support management decision-making, planning, disease surveillance and research. The OCR receives electronic and paper based cancer-related pathology reports from all Ontario laboratories. These reports are coded for disease by OCR staff and help create the incident cancer cases.

As an essential member of the OCR team, the Associate Analyst will review and code cancer-related electronic pathology reports, enter and code paper based reports, and perform quality assurance on resolved cancer cases in the incidence registry.

The key responsibilities for the cancer registry are :

· Retrieve, review and amend as necessary, cases of resolved cancer using an electronic editing interface

· Conduct this work based on an understanding of current North American cancer coding, and Multiple Primary rules, and an understanding of CCO’s data sources.

· Conduct this work in a timely manner

· Participate in audits of cancer registry data, and of the user interface.

· Works somewhat independently with supervision following established policies and procedures

· Demonstrates methodical problem-solving skills and techniques

The key responsibilities for pathology reporting include:

· Retrieve, review and classify electronic pathology reports for all OCR reportable diseases, distinguishing between them and non-reportable diagnoses

· Enter demographics into a manual interface, review and classify paper based pathology reports as above.

· Complete routine disease classification of reports in a timely manner

· Perform quality assessments as required or ePath content and format

· Perform UAT and quality assessment of ePath tools, or their upgrades or enhancements

· Participate in audits of the reports’ medical content as required for Clinical Services or Surveillance

· Responsible for following and adhering to corporate and departmental policy/procedures and standards

QUALIFICATIONS/QUALIFICATIONS:

· At least one year’s experience disease coding in ICD-10 or ICD-O-3 is required. Competency in ICD-)-3 is preferred.

· An undergraduate Degree in Information Management, Information Technology, Business Administration, Health Sciences, Health Administration or Health Informatics or related field or recognized equivalent, is preferred.

· On-the-job training in CCO specific business intelligence tools will be required.

· Completion of community college certificate program or equivalent as a Health Record Technician (HRT) or Administrator (HRA) or Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) or Bachelor’s degree. CTR or CHIMA certification is preferred.

· IM, IT, Business Administration, Health Care, Health. Informatics, Mathematics, or Computer Sciences / programming

· Basic working knowledge in support of client groups such as Health Care, Pharmaceutical, Finance, Human Resources or Information Management, Mathematics, or Computer Sciences.

· Learns and then applies team effectiveness skills in working with team members

· Works for consensus and contributes to achievement of team/ group goals

· Cooperates with colleagues to achieve work group goals
