CWB Financial Group is seeking an Intern, Risk Capital (co-op position) to support the implementation of IFRS-9 and Economic Capital to ensure these activities are in line with CWB objectives and regulatory requirements. The incumbent will be responsible for building and maintaining IFRS-9 and Economic Capital processes, producing expected credit loss (ECL) and capital results, and providing insightful risk analytics to internal clients (including senior leadership). This role will also work closely with the team on methodology development, particularly on asset correlation models and diversification benefit in Economic Capital. The position is for May to August 2018 and is based in Richmond Hill, Ontario.

Who you are:
A current student pursuing a career in Risk Management and working towards an undergraduate or graduate degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Financial Engineering, Computer Science or related quantitative discipline
Curious by nature with an understanding of quantitative and qualitative data analysis and reporting using databases and spreadsheets.
Previous experience with a financial institution and knowledge of A-IRB, Economic Capital and IFRS-9 would be an asset.
A technology enthusiast with strong skills in programming (i.e. SAS, SQL, R, Matlab, VBA, etc.). Knowledge in SAS would be an asset.
Analytically inclined with an ability to work with statistics and economics theory, and demonstrated research abilities.
A quick learner and early adapter of new methods, processes and technologies.
A practiced communicator with very clear and concise written communication skills, with experience in drafting internal memos as well as policies and procedures.
Team focused: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a collaborative work environment while building strong relationships.
A natural organizer with time management skills and a high level of attention to accuracy and details.

What you will do:
IFRS-9 ECL Implementation
Operate the IFRS-9 ECL calculation engine and related processes to produce timely and accurate ECL results.
Validate the input and output data for quality control and governance.
Conduct detailed analysis on IFRS-9 results and prepare reports and presentation materials.
Participate in the development of the IFRS-9 reporting and analysis processes through SAS.
Collaborate with key stakeholders in the IFRS-9 project, including Finance, Project Management, Model Vetting, Integrated Risk Management, Quantitative Risk Management and Modelling, Business Intelligence and Audit.
Provide support to the team on IFRS-9 ad-hoc requests.
Economic Capital Implementation
Perform literature research on asset correlation models and diversification benefit in Economic Capital.
Assist in the development of correlation models for Economic Capital that can correctly capture concentration risk and diversification benefit.
Support the development of Economic Capital production and reporting processes.
