Canadian Fishing Company (Canfisco) is a 109 year old fully integrated seafood processing company based in Vancouver, BC. We harvest, process and market sustainable seafood including salmon, halibut, herring and groundfish from the coastal waters of British Columbia and Alaska. We are looking for a Senior HR/Payroll professional to manage day-to-day functions related to HR, payroll and group benefits for our union and non-union plants. In this role, you will work as part of a team and provide your expertise and support to management, staff and hourly employees.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Payroll:

  • Review and approve bi-weekly payroll for union employees (400+) using ADP payroll system.
  • Process semi-monthly and bi-weekly payroll for staff employees (85+) using ADP payroll system.
  • Prepare and submit semi-monthly and bi-weekly payroll distribution for staff employees.
  • Assist with year-end payroll procedures, account reconciliation and T4s.
  • Prepare and process annual rate changes with proper approvals.
  • Review and approve monthly group benefit invoices and union remittances.
  • Submit monthly Group RRSP contributions using web based system.
  • Prepare monthly payroll services invoice and ensure payment is received and coded.

Human Resources:

  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality with regards to the HR function.
  • Provide information, service and assistance to management, staff and hourly employees with respect to HR, payroll and group benefits.
  • Ensure established HR department policies, procedures and protocols are followed.
  • Gather information, draft correspondence and assist with employee relations issues (discipline, terminations, workplace investigations etc).
  • Maintain accurate and current electronic and manual records for a variety of HR functions.
  • Perform a variety of group benefit related tasks including enrollments, changes, and statement reconciliations as well as benefits related payroll tasks.
  • Assist with web postings and external recruitment.
  • Communicate with external agencies such as MSP, Service Canada, Great West Life and SunLife.
  • Assist with semi-annual and annual company events (fundraisers, holiday parties etc.)
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned by HR Director or VP Finance.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Human Resources
  • 8-10 years of experience with Payroll processing, HR administration, Group Benefits administration, and recruitment (union experience is an asset).
  • Proficient with ADP [email protected] and EZ Labour
  • Certification (PCP) from Canadian Payroll Association is an asset
  • Supervisory experience is required.
  • Must be discrete in managing and imparting confidential information.
  • Cooperative personality, professional demeanor and appearance.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Strong communication skills both written and oral.
  • Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member.
