Position: Student, Research Intern

Reporting to: Director of Policy and Research

Organization Status: Full-time, 10 weeks

Compensation: $15.00/hr

The Canadian Alliance of Student Associations is a not-for-profit representing 21 student governments and their 250,000 student members to the federal government of Canada. CASA advocates for a post-secondary education system that is accessible, affordable, innovative and of the highest quality.

Position Profile:
Reporting to the Director of Policy and Research, the intern will support a number of research projects. The position will require the regular completion of research tasks and a variety of writing projects for both internal and external audiences. The intern will be responsible for the completion of one (1) research report on a determined subject. The intern will also be expected to support CASA’s advocacy and communications efforts over the summer months.

Qualifications:
Pursuing a post-secondary degree or certificate

General understanding of Canadian federalism

Proven ability to conduct quantitative and qualitative research

Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office

Ability to use the Mac OS

Ability to work as a team member

Familiarity and understanding of social media

Ability to take direction

Asset Qualifications:
A strong background or relevant experience in the post-secondary education sector;

Past involvement in student government and knowledge of how student governments operate

Experience with the political process, at the federal or provincial level

Experience in working on policy issues associated with equity-seeking groups

Ability to operate conversationally in French

Experience with content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress or NationBuilder

Responsibilities:
Research (70%)

Gather, read, analyze, interpret, and synthesize topical post-secondary education research, studies, and policy documents

Consult a diverse range of sources, critically examine content, and synthesize arguments into policy-relevant conclusions

Provide research support to the policy and research officers and support member requests for information

Review and develop a research paper for CASA, based upon direction set by the CASA membership

Provide information support for presentations, government briefing packages, public relations materials, and other CASA publications

Office Maintenance (15%)

Contributes to CASA’s resource base through the ongoing identification of useful and relevant PSE materials

Complete an audit and compile and upload any needed information to CASA’s contact and project management software: Basecamp and Highrise.

Support CASA’s website migration and assist in content migration

Additional Responsibilities (15%)

Participate in conference planning

Participate in CASA’s advocacy efforts

Other responsibilities as assigned by the Director, Policy and Research.
