Reporting to the Manager of E-Learning & Communications, the Adult ESL Class Online (AECO) Coordinator is responsible for supervising the daily operations, intake, and stability of the AECO program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support e-learning instructors as the adapt and augment curriculum for the CIES Moodle Learning Management System (LMS). This involves the setting up of online classrooms, design/maintenance of the course layout, plugins, and add-ons.
  • Recruit clients and conduct intake orientations in person or online.*
  • Provide technical assistance and resolutions to e-learning instructors and students.* *
  • Provide assistance to instructors in the development of course materials. This can include the conversion of print to online, the recording/editing of video and audio, and assistance with professional development regarding technical tools.* *
  • Enter client data into CIES database and create / manage client accounts for the purposes of regular reporting.*
  • Promote the project and ensure it fulfills the standards of Web Accessibility Initiatives.

Education and Experience

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in educational technology, instructional design, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and workplace experience. Organizational skills are a necessity and a strong foundation of digital literacy must be demonstrated during the application and interview stage.

Knowledge and Skills

  • 2 years of experience in supporting faculty’s use of instructional technology
  • 2 years of experience creating educational content using a variety of technologies
  • Audio-video recording and editing experience, as well as familiarity with web-conferencing tools and online learning
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, especially online and over the phone
  • Ability to effectively communicate with diverse clientele with empathy and active listening.
  • Strong time management and detail-oriented work habits
  • Demonstrated ability to be highly organized, exercise discretion, and use sound judgment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel is required.
  • Knowledge of learning management system platforms (D2L, Moodle) is required.
  • Knowledge of video and audio production is an asset: iMovie, FinalCutPro, Audacity
  • Knowledge, connection, and passion for issues facing immigrants and refugees in urban settings, international experience and working knowledge of nonprofit business strategies preferred.
  • Passion for the non-profit sector and social assistance is an asset.

* This is a part-time, 20 hours a week position.

* Because of involvement with vulnerable immigrants, refugees, and low-income Canadians, a recent police background check is required for this position.
