PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Detailed list of duties and responsibilities grouped by functionTechnical Support ActivitiesSoftwareInstall, configure, troubleshoot and provide support for various software packages.HardwareTypes of Hardware that the CSC Computer Technologist will support: Desktop and laptop installation, configuration, maintenance and upgrades.Test fixes to ensure problems have been adequately resolved.Technical classroom equipment; projectors, VCRs, TVs, satellite receivers and smart boards.Routine maintenance and upkeep of printers, scanners and photocopiers.Configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot end user telecommunications equipment, telephony devices, and voice/data hardware products.Service Desk SupportThe Service Desk is an integral part of the CSC department, hence this role is required to support in the following ways: Provide Service Desk attendance on a rotational and as required basis.Field incoming help requests from internal and external customer via walk up, telephone and e-mail. All customer related inquiries/requests are to be addressed in a prompt, courteous and professional manner.Evaluate documented resolutions and analyze trends for ways to prevent future problems.Assist in the development of help sheets and frequently asked questions lists for end users.Accurately and fully document all pertinent information regarding a help request in the electronic help ticketing system.Prioritize and schedule problems. Escalate problems (when required) to the appropriately experienced technician.Perform post-resolution follow-ups to help requests.Liaise with and provide training and support to internal and external customers for equipment operation and other related technical subjects.Administration, Documentation and ResearchThe following responsibilities form an important part of the role: Write technical specifications for purchase of department related hardware and software.Assist in preparing, maintaining and upholding departmental procedures particularly those related to the logging, reporting and statistically monitoring all CSC operations.Accurately document instances of desktop equipment or component failure, repair, installation and removal.Conduct research on desktop products in support of PC procurement and development efforts. Evaluate and recommend products for purchase.Record, track and document the service desk request problem-solving process, including all successful and unsuccessful decisions made and actions taken, through to final resolution.Updating inventory control for both hardware and software.BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES: ProfessionalSelf StarterFlexibleTeam OrientedCustomer FocusedJOB QUALIFICATIONS: EducationCompletion of some post-secondary education or enrolling in post secondary (for Fall 2016) preferably in the areas of Business Information Systems (BIS) or Information Technology or equivalent work related experience.ExperienceExcellent technical knowledge of PC and desktop hardware and internal components.Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience.Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment would be an asset.Other required training or skillsStrong documentation skills.Ability to operate tools, components, and peripheral accessories.WORK CONDITIONS: Monday to Friday. Work hours can span from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm in 8 hour shifts on a rotational basis.Sitting for extended periods of time.The flexibility to accept temporary work assignments within the organization.Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, hand and power tools, and to handle other computer components.Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy to heavy objects, up to 40lbs.Working on ceiling mounted equipment with arms above head for periods of time.Occasional inspection of cables and wiring in floors, ceilings and in the outside cable plant.Working on a ladder and in confined spaces.CAE thanks all applicants for their interest.
