Job Description

Located in Calgary and only and hours drive to the majestic Rocky Mountains. The Senior Director of Marketing is a newly created role that will join an expanding senior management team as the key player facing the consumer and driving innovation.

This important role reports directly to the CEO and will lead the company’s full cycle marketing activities, including: research, targeting, market analysis and strategy, innovation, brand development and positioning, packaging design, consumer communication, digital and social marketing, channel marketing, and public relations.

Responsibilities

Insights, Market Analysis, and Strategy

Lead consumer and market research needs, consumer insights, trade insights, and category development. Understand and curate consumer trends, flavour trends, and snacking trends to inform the innovation pipeline and communications.

Innovation

Collaborate with senior leadership team members in building and driving the innovation and renovation product pipelines. Lead consumer facing research and validation to support leading-edge innovation. Build brand communication plans around new the product pipeline and strategic launches.

Brand Management

Own brand development initiatives from the ground up: research, segmentation, targeting, positioning, naming, design, production, activation, maintenance, and management. Collaborate with world-class creative agencies in pulling all the important brand pieces together to be understood and meaningful to our consumers. Build and maintain brand standards and associated brand assets. Establish key brand success measurements and metrics.

Packaging Design

Manage the full packaging design process from insights and a solid brand foundation, through design and research, to production and printing.

Effectively use a project management approach with careful monitoring and management of timelines, resources, and budgets.

Consumer Communication

Manage the strategic framework for all marketing communication initiatives and activities to ensure cohesion of the brand story telling and consumer relevance across all media and messaging.

Build and execute integrated marketing communication initiatives that may include: retail POS, mass media, digital, social media, experiential, PR, and sponsorships.

Maintain great relationships and clear briefings with leading creative agency partners to build powerful messages, tactics, and execution plans. Establish benchmarks and KPI’s for measuring marketing communication effectiveness and ensure optimal return on spend.

Ensure that communication initiatives help to build brand awareness, drive trial, and land converted loyal consumers.

Sales Team Relationship and Support

Deliver comprehensive suite of sales materials and retail activation materials in close collaboration with the sales team and our valued retail partners.

Collaboration with the sales team to secure feedback of marketing initiatives, retail success, and opportunities for refinement.

Marketing Team Leadership

Leadership and building of a marketing team in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment. Willing to roll up you sleeves to personally manage projects in addition to managing overall team activities.

Accountabilities

Brand building success with strong awareness, trial, and conversion.

Effective and cohesive consumer communication.

Marketing department budget and resource management.

Marketing team leadership.

Regulatory and legal compliance for brands, products, and communication.

Cross-functional collaboration across departments and outside stakeholders.

Required Experience:

7-10+ years of consumer marketing experience with CPG/FMCG brands.

Brand management and brand building in emerging health & wellness brands.

Solid communication experience with: consumer insights, advertising, digital marketing, social media, consumer promotions, POS, PR, and trade marketing. Experience managing and briefing creative agencies.

Experience executing brand building and brand marketing campaigns across diverse media and channels.

Snack Food industry experience is highly desirable.

Experience in both corporate and entrepreneurial environments is a plus.

Required Skills:

BA/BS/BComm required, MBA preferred.

Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.

Strong analytical problem solver. Ability to develop actionable insights.

Organization and project management skills.

Strong leadership, cross-functional, and interpersonal skills.

Tech and digitally savvy.

Working knowledge of syndicated, market, and shopper data sources such as: Nielsen, IRI, SPINS is a strong asset.

Self-driven to achieve goals.

Pronounced sense of urgency in driving work from inception through implementation.

Flexible and able to work at all levels from high level strategy to detail oriented execution.
