Job Purpose:

BuildForce Canada has an exciting opportunity for an individual with strong project management skills. BuildForce Canada’s role as a national industry-led organization is to work with the construction and maintenance industry across Canada to provide information and resources to assist with its management of workforce requirements.

BuildForce is looking for a project manager on a consulting contract basis for a new project (The Changing Face of Construction: Recruitment and Retention of Women in the Skilled Trades). This is a contract position for the period October 2016 – September 2019. BuildForce Canada is located in Ottawa, ON; however, the successful candidate doesn’t need to reside in Ottawa.

The purpose of the project is to develop practical tools and resources that will support the Canadian construction and maintenance industry in creating a fair, equitable, and respectful workplace. The project manager will be responsible for managing, implementing, and administering all aspects of the project to ensure all objectives are achieved on time and on budget. Completion of project objectives will necessitate the development of working relationships with leaders in the construction and maintenance industry and women’s programs across Canada.

Education, Experience, and qualifications:

  • Minimum three years’ work experience managing large scale HRD projects;
  • Proven ability to manage project budgets.
  • Understanding/experience working on women’s workplace issues.
  • Motivated, self-starter able to work independently and with minimal supervision;
  • Strong facilitation/meeting skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Strong, interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
  • Superior written and verbal skills.
  • Experience managing the efforts of external consultants.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Strong computer skills, proficient with MS Office applications and WWW.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Bilingual capability (verbal and written) is an asset.

Job Functions:

  • Undertake research as required for the project.
  • Work with national, provincial/territorial, and local area construction industry stakeholders and women’s programs throughout the development and implementation of the tools and resources.
  • Develop, plan and implement the day to day management of the project to ensure the timely and quality completion of specific project deliverables
  • Ensure administrative processes and procedures are in place to satisfy the terms and conditions of the contribution agreement.
  • Work with the Executive Director and Manager of Finance and Administration to plan and administer the project budget, including monitoring of monthly cash flows.
  • Assist in preparation and submission of progress reports to support financial claims for the project.
  • Prepare and manage contracts with outside consultants.
  • Work with the Executive Director to develop, manage, and execute a results measurement plan.
  • Write project reports.
