Reporting to the Manager, Accounting, the Accountant is part of a collaborative team of accounting professionals working closely together in the preparation of timely and accurate financial information for various entities within Brookfield Renewable. The Accountant will focus on the following activities:

Responsibilities

  • Prepare timely and accurate journal entries as required in completing the financial statement close process;
  • Review and maintain monthly general ledger reconciliations to the sub-ledger on a timely basis;
  • Prepare weekly/monthly bank reconciliations;
  • Prepare Canadian and US sales tax returns;
  • Provide year-end audit support;
  • Ensure adherence with internal controls policies and procedures;
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of financial statement close process improvements;
  • Participate in the review phase of the monthly financial statement close cycle;
  • Support the Manager in various related activities.
  • Supporting ad hoc projects and or programs in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Working towards or completion of an accounting designation (CGA, CPA or CMA) or a university degree in Accounting;
  • Minimum of three (3) years of pertinent work experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of IFRS (US GAAP an asset);
  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation of supporting documents for financial statements;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of internal controls (specific SOX experience is considered as an asset);
  • Good knowledge of Excel, IFS and Controller;
  • Ability to “think outside the box,” to work in a dynamic, complex, fast paced environment, to adapt quickly and to manage changing priorities;
  • Excellent team player;
  • Ability to work independently, solve problems and use sound judgment;
  • Solid analytical abilities, combined with being detail oriented;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills (Bilingual English/French would be an asset)
