BCIT International is seeking a temporary, full-time International Student Services Representative. This position is responsible for receiving and directing the flow of visitors, correspondence and incoming telephone calls, assisting students with applications and other documentation, and providing information on policies, procedures and regulations regarding Citizenship & Immigration Canada. In addition to providing a high standard of customer service, this position provides clerical and administrative support to the BCIT International department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Responds to a high volume of in-person, mail, email and telephone inquiries regarding policies, procedures, rules, regulations, eligibility criteria, and application processes related to a variety of BCIT programs and courses.
Screens drop-in students and assesses needs; provides services or redirects to a department staff member or external department at the institute.
Responds to incoming telephone inquiries, redirects calls to appropriate staff member; answers general and/or specific inquiries in a timely manner.
Provides information on courses and programs and general eligibility and entrance requirements, application status, outstanding/received documents, program intake dates, availability, application deadline dates and other related full-time application processes or procedures.
Assists students and staff to locate information for study and work permits, visitor’s visas, application forms, processing fees, and a variety of government services application forms.
Sends information and application packages as required and sets up appointments with appropriate staff.
Registers students into appropriate information sessions and part-time courses. WHAT THIS POSITION HAS TO OFFER:

Completion of Grade 12 plus additional specialized training of up to one year duration in business management/administration, and/or computer systems technology
Two years general experience plus up to one year’s experience in a position of similar responsibility in a busy educational or customer service environment.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
MS Office software at the intermediate level including Word and Excel
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to listen, communicate and resolve issues with a diverse, multicultural client base
Resourceful and proven ability to show tact, patience and diplomacy in assisting students and visitors to the department
Excellent team skills
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Strong ability to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities in busy and high volume environment
Proven ability to meet deadlines in a demanding environment with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
Independent self-starter with the ability to solve problems and provide a high level of customer service
Accurate data entry skills and 50 wpm keyboarding
- Please note: These are the minimum required qualifications. This position is a day shift position as defined in Article 14.1 of the Collective Agreement.
