The “Core” Branch Manager is accountable for the development and implementation of a rolling 6-12-month sales and service plan to deliver a great customer experience, maximize growth of the branch book by optimizing productivity, increasing weighted unit sales, and ensuring customer retention as well as the management of risk and operational compliance. This role collaborates with specialized sales and service employees (e.g. CAMs, FPs, SBBs and IAs) resident within the branch to support the overall customer experience, resolve issues and enable quality referrals to maximize overall growth and profitability, and contribute to the success of the total team. The “Core” Branch Manager is accountable to establish and enhance the Bank’s presence, profile, and share of wallet in the local community which may include publicly representing the Bank, networking for profitable customer relationships, and participating in community activities.


Sales Staff and ABM Management and Coaching (40%)

  • Schedule Financial Services Managers to meet customer demand and branch hours
  • Observe Financial Services Managers and ABM performance through scorecards and side-by-sides
  • Evaluate Financial Services Managers and ABM performance on key evaluative and diagnostic metrics
  • Provide regular feedback to Financial Services Managers and ABM through Coaching for Performance program

  • Ensure mentoring and coordination meetings are happening between relevant branch staff and partners: Financial Services Managers – Customer Service Representatives, Financial Services Managers – Branch Partners, Branch Partners – Customer Service Representatives,
  • Ensure Financial Services Managers complete required training within acceptable timeframe; ensure ABM is moving CSRs and FSCs through training appropriately
  • Act as key point of contact for ongoing recruitment, performance management and career development activities relating to ABM and Financial Services Managers

Branch Coordination, Operations & Administration (20%)

  • Ensure smooth day-to-day operations
  • Schedule and prepares communication for branch meetings
  • Complete required audits, paperwork and sales fulfillment follow-up as needed
  • Work with PBAM to assess maintenance, security and other branch needs
  • Track and manages branch expense budget
  • Coordination with Branch Partners: Discuss branch operations and mutual referral opportunities with branch partners: FPs, IAs, SBB, CAM

Escalations and Sales Backfill (10%)

  • Resolve sales escalations and customer complaints, and major service escalations and complaints
  • Fulfill products for walk-in customers as backfill for Financial Services Managers, when peaks in demand require

Front of House Observation (10%)

  • Observe CSR and FSC interactions with customers by walking the branch floor and behind wickets
  • Ensure smooth front of house operations, and provide feedback to CSRs, FSCs and ABM as needed

Participate in Coaching Activities and Area Alignment (10%)

  • Discuss performance with PBAM. Receive feedback and coaching for continuous improvement and to ensure alignment between branch and Area performance outcomes
  • Coordinate with Area-level partners to ensure smooth flow of referrals and proper transitioning of customers (ILS, MS)

Risk Management (10%)

  • Protect the Bank’s assets and maintain the quality of the lending portfolio by ensuring adherence to lennding process requirements, and established yield, quality, diversification and risk guidelines
  • Comply with all regulatory, legal and ethical requirements


  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience
  • RISR registered and lending qualified
  • Branch Compliance Officer (BCO) qualified

  • Excellent customer service aptitude
  • Strong management, leadership and coaching capabilities
  • Understands P&C Canada’s technology and processes well, able to multi-task and delegate appropriately
  • Possesses intimate knowledge of all aspects of BMO’s branch operations
  • Understands full suite of financial products and comfortable answering questions and referring to the appropriate SME
  • Has a strong community presence – able to represent BMO by participating in local foundations, charities, etc
  • Works well with P&C Canada’s partner organizations
  • True leader of people – able to attract and retain and guide front line staff to success
