Under the general direction of the Journeyman Plumber, the Apprentice Plumber is responsible for installing and maintaining plumbing systems, identifying repair and/or replacement needs; providing necessary information on the proper uses of the equipment; and ensuring adequate materials are available to complete assignments in a timely manner.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Reads blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine layout of plumbing system, water supply network and waste and drainage systems
• Installs, repairs and maintains domestic or commercial plumbing fixtures and systems
• Locates and marks positions for pipe connections, passage holes and fixtures in walls and floors
• Cuts opening in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings
• Measures, cuts, bends and threads pipes using hand and power tools or machines
• Joins pipes using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement or soldering, brazing and welding equipment
• Tests pipes for leaks using air and water pressure gauges ​
