Job Description

The Chemical Engineer will be integrated to one of our environmental pilot plant projects which requires a better understanding of liquid/liquid separation phenomena. The project is looking at applying liquid/liquid separation technologies to known industrial challenges. He/she will report to the Lead Project Engineer on a project basis and the Vice-President. He/she will be responsible for designing large scale experiments and analysing the results using various analytical and material characterisation methods. The engineer will be required to work independently and as part of a team ensuring that daily tasks are focused towards completing project milestones. BCRI is looking for someone with a strong understanding of physical chemistry to be applied to industrial scale challenges. Project specific training will be given by a PhD in Process Engineering, specific equipment training will be provided as required


  • Independently design large scale experiments with final approval from the Lead Project Engineer.
  • Operate pilot plants as required.
  • Obtain organic samples from operations.
  • Analyze organic compounds to determine chemical and physical properties.
  • Work with procurement to procure materials and services.,
  • Keep a safe and tidy workplace.


  • Recent PhD graduate in Chemical Engineering (or Chemist).
  • Specialized in Physical Chemistry.
  • 5+ years of industrial experience will be an asset.
  • Strong fundamental understanding of process equipment.
  • Strong fundamental understanding of analytical and material characterization methods.
  • Ability to work independently and within the project scope.
  • Experience in reading, understanding and creating PFD’s and P&ID’s.
  • Excellent organization, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.
  • Must be fluent in English.
