Salary for Legal Counsel Level 01: $76,366.77 – $98,912.62 annually
Salary for Legal Counsel Level 02: $105,490.00 – $136,807.33 annually
This competition is for one permanent position to be located in the Vancouver region. Travel is a requirement of this position. The successful candidate can be expected, over time, to work in various office locations within the region, including Vancouver, North Vancouver and Richmond.

The Regional Crown Counsel, Vancouver, is now accepting applications for an entry level Crown Counsel position in the Vancouver region. Lawyers must be called to the bar between the years of 2005 – 2015.
The Criminal Justice Branch contributes to the protection of society by preparing and conducing prosecutions diligently and fairly, and by striving to develop the most effective methods to administer justice in the Province. The Branch prosecutes offences under the Criminal Code of Canada, the Youth Criminal Justice Act, and provincial statutes in the Provincial, Supreme and Appeal Courts of British Columbia and in the Supreme Court of Canada. The Branch provides legal advice to government and police on criminal law matters, and develops policies and procedures on issues relating to the prosecution of criminal justice.
As an entry level Legal Counsel, you will be responsible for conduct of the prosecution of offences under the Criminal Code, provincial statues and regulations and federal statues from inception to conclusion. This position determines whether to lay charges, what charges to lay, and is responsible for conduct of proceedings in court through to conclusion in accordance with Criminal Justice policies and the Crown Counsel Act. Legal Counsel are responsible for ensuring that witnesses, victims, and families are dealt with in a considerate and courteous manner and that victims and their families are adequately prepared for court proceedings. This position gives advice and assistance to law enforcement agencies regarding the prosecution of offences and answers general inquiries from the public relating to criminal law or the prosecution of provincial offices.

An eligibility list may be established for vacancies arising within the Vancouver region. If established, the list will remain valid for a period not exceeding one year. Travel is a requirement of this position.
You must submit to and successfully pass the enhanced security screening and Criminal Records Review Act. Security screening and Criminal Record Review Act checks will be conducted periodically and at least every 5 years.

Eligibility for membership with the Law Society of British Columbia.
– Legal Counsel Level 1: Up to five years practical legal experience, preferably in the practice of Criminal Law.
– Legal Counsel Level 2: From 6th to 11th year of call, preferably in the practice of Criminal Law.
