$44,572.26 – $50,542.28 annually

This position resides within the Justice and Safety Programs Unit, Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General and reports to the Manager, Victim Court Support Programs. This position provides direct services to victims of serious crime through the criminal court process including emotional support, safety planning, accompaniment to court proceedings, liaising with Crown Counsel on behalf of victims, and proactively arranging referrals to other support services. This position provides services to a diverse group of victims/witnesses involved in cases of serious crime (e.g. murder, child sexual assault, domestic violence). Many of these victims are vulnerable, at high risk and experiencing complex grief and trauma issues. These positions are highly independent, working a courthouse setting to provide assistance to victims and their families. The position requires a high degree of self management, judgement, and strong assessment and communication skills.
In the role of Victim Court Support Caseworker, you will provide victims/witnesses of serious crime, and their families, with emotional support, safety planning, referrals, information and accompaniment throughout the criminal justice process. Working with considerable independence, you’ll call upon your strong assessment skills to identify the most appropriate and effective ways to provide direct assistance and facilitate referrals to a range of other support programs and services to best meet the needs of the victim.
With excellent communication skills, strong knowledge of the criminal justice system and the dynamics of victimization, coping strategies and recovery models, you’ll be well-equipped to use your compassion, tact, diplomacy and problem-solving skills to assist victims/witnesses and their families. Preferably, you have experience in providing support to victims, witnesses and their families throughout the court process; working with Crown counsel; and collaborating with government and community agencies to in responding to victims’ issues.
