BC Corrections plays a leading role in British Columbia’s criminal justice system by protecting the community through offender management and control. Corrections Branch manages community work service and supports offenders to make positive changes in their behaviour and attitudes.

Adult Custody Division is one of four Corrections Branch divisions and is responsible for the care of approximately 2,800 male and female adult inmates throughout B.C. The Division operates correctional centres with various levels of security and control for individuals awaiting trial or serving a provincial custody sentence of up to two years less a day. Correctional programs address inmates’ thought patterns, behaviour and lifestyles that are known to contribute to crime. Correctional centres provide programs and additional services that balance risks and needs, ensure links with community corrections based on common core programming and integrated case management, communicate with stakeholders and participate as a pro-active partner in our criminal justice system.

As a correctional officer, you will rotate through various posts and departments. With leadership from department supervisors, you will be responsible for maintaining security, safety, good order, discipline and care of adult inmates by providing orientation, direction, guidance and programming. The focus is on engaging inmates in a pro-social environment that provides maximum opportunity for change in a setting that is productive and supportive and where they are treated in a respectful, fair and equitable manner.

We offer a variety of work schedules, providing staffing coverage on a 365/24/7 basis. Correctional officers work various shift patterns, including day, night, weekend and statutory holiday shifts. All positions are rotational.

We offer extensive training, growth and development opportunities, a competitive salary and benefits package, a pension plan that ranks among the best and a balance between work and other life commitments. We are committed to continuing to be an employer of choice, providing a professional environment where ideas work. For more information, please visit What We Offer.

The correctional officer position has a peace officer designation, so is held to a high standard of conduct, both on and off duty, by the employer, the public and the courts.

Note to applicants applying for positions at Alouette Correctional Centre for Women: The privacy and dignity of female inmates is a fundamental aspect of supervision. As a result, correctional officer posts in this centre are staffed by female officers only.
