The mission of BC Timber Sales (BCTS) is to develop and market Crown timber to establish the costs of development and the market price to capture the value of the asset for the public. The vision of the organization is to be an effective timber marketer generating wealth through sustainable resource management.
The twelve Timber Sales Offices (TSO) are responsible for delivering the operational aspects of the program. Their mandate is to plan, manage and evaluate all aspects of the BCTS within their geographical timber sales business area, spanning planning, operations and business functions for timber sales, forest stewardship and an overall land management role. Although the organizational structure of the TSOs is standard, the staff composition, allocated resources, and service plans are not. This flexibility enables TSOs to customize their operations to local needs.
As Woodlands Manager, you will play an integral role providing leadership/guidance to the business area and operational staff – including field units of the TSO. This position is involved in high profile resource use negotiations with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and provides critical benchmark information for provincial timber pricing. Your knowledge of timber pricing and timber sales policy is essential in this leadership role, as is a sound understanding of the legislative requirements affecting forest management such as the Forest and Range Practices Act and Forest Act.
As a key member of the management team, you make vital decisions and recommendations with serious economic, environmental or legal risks and ensure resource management practices are performed and evaluated in accordance with established standards. You are results oriented and focused on continuous improvement and have the ability to motivate and develop others. The Manager functions effectively in a fast paced atmosphere and has the strategic orientation this role requires to facilitate policy development through working groups and to promote an integrated approach to the management of the timber sales business area.
