The BC Cancer Foundation is the bridge that connects philanthropic support and research breakthroughs in cancer knowledge. As the fundraising partner of BC Cancer and the largest charitable funder of cancer research in this province, we enable donors to make contributions to leading-edge research that have a direct impact on improvements to cancer care for patients in British Columbia. We fund with the goal of finding solutions.
As an independent charitable organization, we raise funds exclusively for BC Cancer that go to supporting innovative cancer research and enhancements to patient care.
We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual for our Advancement Services team to help us achieve our fundraising goals in support of research & care at BC Cancer.
This position is a combination of customer service – a frontline resource for donors of the Foundation and internal staff – and gift processing in our donor database (Raiser’s Edge). Specifically, the Advancement Services Representative receives cash, cheques and credit card donations from various sources such as phone calls, mail and internet, verifies instructions from donors, creates constituent records in the database and codes the gifts according to Foundation procedures. This role also prepares and proofs receipts and standard letters to donors. This position works directly with our donors, most commonly over the phone, to receive donations, verify donor information, and answer donor inquiries. In addition, this role will have specific donation processing assignments.
We are looking for someone who is adept at problem solving, and who loves both working with data and talking to the many donors who support the work of BC Cancer through us. Superb organizational skills, resourcefulness, strong attention to detail, and creative problem solving skills are critical to this role. We are looking for candidates who have a professional manner and the ability to interact tactfully and diplomatically with a wide variety of people. The ability to balance high-volume diverse workloads and to meet deadlines despite periodic interruptions is required to be successful in this position, as is the desire to make a contribution in a team environment.
The ideal candidate will possess a degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution, plus one year of related experience, preferably in a fundraising environment. Proficiency in Excel and a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook are required, as are excellent written and oral communication skills. Experience with Raiser’s Edge, or other databases and data entry are critical to this role.
Additional language skills such as Punjabi, Cantonese and Mandarin would be an asset.
We offer a comprehensive salary and benefit package starting with a starting salary of $40,000.
