We are seeking a seasonal Volunteer Resources Assistant who will report to the Manager, Volunteer Resources. The Volunteer Resources Assistant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day functions of APC’s volunteer program. Under the supervision of the Coordinator, Volunteer Resources, this position assists in the supervision of new volunteers through the onboarding and training process, along with the daily scheduling and supervision of all volunteers, maintains volunteer database and provides support to Volunteer Resources and other APC staff for special events.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Orientation and Training

  • Provide support and mentoring to new volunteers through the onboarding and training process
  • Provide ongoing visitor service training for new volunteers

Supervision and evaluation

  • As part of the Volunteer Resources team, supervise new and current volunteers on their regular shifts
  • As part of the Volunteer Resources team, supervise volunteers at special events on evenings and weekends (Summer)
  • Provide support to staff supervising volunteers throughout the Park and Zoo

Program Administration

  • Support the Volunteer Resources team in the day to day administration of the volunteer program
  • Assist with the administration of the volunteer database, maintain accurate records for all volunteers
  • Work collaboratively with all business units in the Park

Technology

  • Maintain up to date information on Volunteer Impact database program
  • Instruct and support volunteers on the use of Volunteer Impact
  • Photograph volunteers and volunteer activities and manage electronic photo albums

What you need to have:

  • Must have excellent communication (both verbal and written), interpersonal and administrative skills
  • Must be capable of working flexible hours including weekends, under pressure and independently as necessary as well as handling a diverse range of responsibilities
  • Must be able to maintain positive work relations with staff, volunteers and Park visitors
  • Good computer skills (Microsoft Word/Excel) are essential
  • Current student of planning to attend a credited institution in the fall

Considered a strong asset:

  • Coordinating volunteers or experience as a volunteer is considered an asset
