Digital Content Producer (1-year contract)

Arctic explorers are the astronauts of Earth. If outer space is the most remote or forbidding destination ever reached by our species, the arctic is a close runner-up. Indeed, the mysteries surrounding the region have led, in part, to the enduring popular interest in it; the Arctic’s remoteness endows it with great narrative power.

The Arctic Research Foundation has powerful, untold stories and it needs a storyteller. In this new position, the Digital Content Producer will help the research scientists, crewmembers, academics, technicians, and other individuals affiliated with ARF, tell their stories. The Producer will both commission and produce original, multi-format content for a soon-to-be-launched ARF website focused on the multiplicity of voices in Canada’s North.

As a storyteller, you will be in the middle of this evolving story. This full-time, do-it-all position will write and edit copy, arrange the logistics for shoots, operate still and video cameras, publish and promote content, as well as log and manage multimedia assets. And did we mention sail the Arctic Ocean and visit some of the remotest places on the planet?

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a demonstrated ability to tell exceptional written and visual stories who wants to help others do the same.

  • Archiving – Maintain a digital asset management database for all editorial multimedia collected by ARF.

  • Ability to set up, operate and maintain professional audio and/or video recording equipment (e.g. Canon EOS, ENG cameras);
  • Expertise in video and audio editing (Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Audition) and an ability to edit raw images (Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop). Ability in motion graphics and animation is considered an asset;
  • Working knowledge of a range of applications and software including social media platforms, analytics and content management systems;
