Position Description:
We are seeking new and recent graduates with an educational background in Computer Science or Software Engineering to work as part of high-performing Process Automation teams , supporting and improving large scale software applications systems. The software systems are implemented using object-oriented, inter-system messaging, and relational database technologies. These systems are essential to the operation of our industry-leading manufacturing processes and are part of one of the largest IT environments in Canada.

We are seeking five full-time employees to join the Process Automation team in the following areas:

Finishing Automation Systems

Automation Solutions Development
This group works to support and improve software applications and systems are implemented using object-oriented, inter-system messaging, and relational database technologies. In the new few years the group will be part of multi discipline teams for system renewals and major upgrade.

The successful candidate will be responsible for manufacturing process data management:

  • Extract, Transform and Load (ETL)
  • Business Intelligence
  • Reports and user Interfaces
  • Gathering of process data from sensors and control systems

Hot Mill & Primary Automation Systems

  • Work independently and/or as part of a team to develop, test, deploy and support software as it relates to the automation of manufacturing processes such as:

product tracking
operator interfaces
manufacturing process data management
web app development/reporting
critical process models and automatic controls

  • Participate in multi-discipline teams to solve problems and implement improvement projects by developing complex queries, participating in or carrying out analytical studies, providing subject matter expertise with regard to automation or delivering automation based solutions
  • Monitor key metrics related to automation system performance and follow up as required
  • Provide computer system administration and management-
  • Work with Engineering, Manufacturing Technology and external vendors on system renewals and major upgrades. Some current projects include:

Enterprise Wide Business Intelligence Implementation.
Hot Rolling Process Equipment and Automation Modernization
Electric Arc Furnace Automation Renewal
Tin Products Process Area Automation Renewal

Work Environment
Office and plant environments.

Hours of Work
Normal hours of work are days, Monday to Friday, with extended hours as required to meet project deadlines or resulting from periods of peak workload. Employees are required to participate in a shared oncall pager rotation for the supported systems/operations.
