Position title: SASC Support Worker
Department: AMS Sexual Assault Support Centre (SASC)
Reports to: Support and Advocacy Coordinator/SASC Manager
Hours: 10 hours/week with possibility of additional hours
(Evenings and weekends)
Status: Temporary, part-time (ASAP to April 30th, 2017)
Wage: $20/hour
Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide crisis and emotional support and safety planning for survivors of violence
  • Provide legal, medical, and campus-related advocacy including hospital and court accompaniments for clients
  • Maintain client files and other client administration
  • Assist with facilitation of support groups
  • Assist with development and maintenance of support resources
  • Support a campus coordinated response to sexual assault and take part in case consultation meetings
  • Work in collaboration with other on and off campus resources to affectively support survivor’s needs
  • Attend staff meetings and supervisory meetings
  • Uphold the standards of client confidentiality
  • Work collaboratively with all of The SASC staff and volunteers
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant post-secondary education in the field of Social Work, Indigenous Studies and/or combination of training/education/experience
  • Specialized knowledge of traditional Indigenous forms of spiritual and cultural teachings and healing practices
  • Specialized knowledge of sexual assault, violence and intergenerational trauma
  • Experience working with Indigenous youth and diverse communities an asset
  • Experience providing hospital accompaniment and providing legal advocacy
  • Well organized, flexible, self-motivated and ability to work and make decisions independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience working within an educational context, and/or within the UBC campus community is an asset.
  • Experience with The SASC is considered an asset. Experiences with other feminist/anti-oppressive services will be considered.
