The Position

The Learning and Research team empowers our members through the development and delivery of relevant and timely learning offerings, research and information. As the Research and Information Coordinator, you conduct research, provide analysis and recommendations on programs, policies and positions related to school board and trusteeship governance. Working on the Learning and Research team, you will collaborate with your team and other departments to create information and research resources to meet the needs of our member school boards.

The Research and Information Coordinator’s main accountabilities include:

  • Conducts environmental scans provincially, nationally and internationally to identify emerging trends, influences, best practices affecting school board and trustee governance
  • Creates reports and well-structured analysis and synopses on a variety of topics, based on sound literary reviews
  • Analyzes and synthesizes trends, opportunities, influences and member wants and needs and drafts into programs and policy positions
  • Recommends governance processes, learning programs and policy based on research, emerging trends and best practices
  • Provides expertise on the Association’s policy development model through analysis of best practices and information gathered on school board governance
  • Creates a policy evaluation process and supporting tools to assess the adoption of the ASBA governance model by members. Analyzes results of evaluation process and drafts results and recommendations.
  • Supports other departments by providing research and analysis expertise on strategic plan goals, initiatives and projects

Key First Year Deliverables

  • Completes environmental scans and analysis identify emerging trends, influences, best practices affecting school board and trustee governance. Prepares report on results found.
  • Completes creation of policy evaluation process and supporting tools. Analyzes results of evaluation process and prepares report on findings.
  • Finalizes the selection of an on-line platform to deliver learning offerings and information for members
  • Creates and maintains information and research content on the new on-line platform

The Ideal Candidate

You love to research, analyze the findings and write summaries on what the research has identified. You are able to effectively translate governance and trusteeship research into information and position recommendations. You have project experience and are motivated by delivering products within specified timeframes. Experience includes:

  • Bachelor degree in a related field, with preference given to a graduate degree
  • Three – five years working experience in environmental scanning, research and policy development
  • Excellent research skills and experience with multiple research methodologies, preferably in a social sciences environment
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to translate research into draft positions and policies
  • Experience in digital technologies and on-line programs
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office Products
