The Alberta Motor Vehicle Industry Council (AMVIC) has an immediate opening for a self-motivated individual who enjoys working in a fast paced environment to fill the position of investigator . This is a permanent full-time position based in Edmonton , Alberta.
The ideal candidate is an experienced investigator from any industry sector who can independently conduct and document investigations while working effectively with the general public, businesses, industry associations, and law enforcement agencies.
Responsibilities will include:
- Responding to complaints and inquiries from consumers.
- Interpreting, administering and applying legislation including the Fair Trading Act and related regulations as they relate to motor vehicle businesses and salespeople.
- Conducting investigations and making appropriate recommendations regarding subsequent actions including criminal prosecution and administrative reviews.
- Completing and serving court documents and court briefs.
Skills:
- Ability to thoroughly understand the Fair Trading Act , Automotive Business Regulation, Cost of Credit Disclosure Regulation, and Internet Sales Contract Regulation, and apply them consistently and pragmatically.
- Team player and ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to prioritize and organize multiple and varied duties with minimal direction.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with clear English language skills.
- Strong computer skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain and practice strict confidentiality.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain productive relationships.
- Ability to act independently within established policy guidelines.
Requirements:
- Progressively responsible administrative law experience.
- Experience conducting fact-finding interviews, examining documents, interpreting and applying legislation.
- Experience with court processes, documenting and giving evidence, and preparing disclosures.
- Major case management training.
- Excellent communication skills and experience providing information to the public would be an asset.
- Conciliatory approach to problem solving.
- Self-motivated.
- Motor vehicle industry experience would be an asset.
- Knowledge of the Criminal Code and the Fair Trading Act .
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and computers.
- Ability to act independently within established policy guidelines.
- Training in surveillance and undercover operations is an asset.
- The successful candidate will be required to successfully undergo a criminal record check and meet the requirements of becoming a Peace Officer.
This position requires some travel to communities in Alberta.
AMVIC is responsible for the enforcement of the Fair Trading Act , Automotive Business Regulation and related automotive regulations in the province of Alberta. Investigators are responsible for investigating consumer and industry complaints relating to the motor vehicle industry in Alberta, including automotive and recreational vehicle sales, repair and service.
