The Unit Manager is responsible for supporting the mission of Alberta Health Services by ensuring the provision of exemplary patient care, education, and research in an atmosphere that preserves the dignity and rights of patients and their families. This is accomplished through the provision of excellent patient care, the delivery of patient and staff education, and the introduction of research initiatives while demonstrating the core values of the organization.

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, the Unit Manager – OPD has accountability for the Outpatient Department including IV Therapy & Endoscopy , and is responsible for participating in strategic planning and identifying budget requirements (human, material and capital resources) to safely meet patient needs. The incumbent is also responsible for the management of expenditures and variance analysis of a budget; establishing and maintaining standards of practice; manages clinical resources, resolves issues within his/her scope of responsibility, hiring and evaluating performance of professional and ancillary staff and creating and sustaining a healthy work environment including Occupational Health and Safety issues. This position facilitates the implementation of changes to structure and processes in order of priority to accomplish improved outcomes in patient satisfaction, quality of care, and cost containment.

The Unit Manager establishes and maintains collaborative working relationships with the site Medical Leads, the SCH Management teams and AHS regional program teams to ensure quality Outpatients services are provided.

Qualifications:

– Graduate of a recognized School of Nursing
– Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing – Preferred
– 3-5 years recent relevant clinical experience in Ambulatory services
– A minimum of 2 years recent nursing experience in Endoscopy
– 1-2 years related management or leadership experience
– BCLS-HCP required
– CNA Gastroenterology Certification an asset
– Must be a member in good standing with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA)

or proceed with Standard Application Form.
