The Recreation Therapist II takes a leadership role in ensuring that the level of therapeutic recreation practice in their clinical area is evidence based, client centred in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. The therapist provides clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe and efficient client care as well as coordinating the assessment, treatment, education and care of the clients. This position requires collaboration and communication with the health care team, confidentiality and a high level of professionalism.
Under the Supervision of the Conitnuing Care/Allied Health Manager, this position provides comprehensive Recreational Therapy Services including assessment and treatment for clients of all ages in a variety of caseload sectors in a multi disciplinary health service setting. This position maintains documentation, collaborates & communicates with members of the care team, supervises other staff and may work in varied geographical locations.
Qualifications:
Formal Education:
- Baccalaureate in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies or equivalent criteria to meet requirements for Registered Professional membership with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).
- Masters degree is desirable.
Experience:
- Three years related clinical experience as a recreation therapist.
License(s)/Certificate(s):
- Licenses/certificates as specified and required by a Zone, site or program.
Must have or be willing to obtain:
- Current BCLS certification (level required may vary).
- Valid Class V driver’s license.
- Valid Class 3 or 4 drivers license (operate bus).
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate.
- Safe Food Handling Certificate.
- Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification Association (AFLCA )or equivalency.
- First Aid.
- It’s Your Move: Safe Client Handling.
- Supportive Pathways.
- National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) is an asset.
Professional Memberships:
- Active Registered Professional membership with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association.
