A Pharmacist position is responsible for:

  • The provision of pharmaceutical care and drug distribution functions to inpatients and their caregivers according to AHS, hospital and departmental standards.
  • Precepting and teaching of pharmacy residents, staff, and students as required.
  • Provision of drug information to pharmacy, nursing, medicine and other members of the multidisciplinary team as required.
  • Active participant on a multidisciplinary patient care team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from a recognized institution is required.
  • Licensed or eligibility for licensure with Alberta College of Pharmacists (ACP).
  • Certificate of competency from the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada is required.
  • Additional Prescribing Authorization granted by the Alberta College of Pharmacists is required.
  • Certification to administer drugs by Injection granted by the Alberta College of Pharmacists is an asset.
  • Active membership in the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists (CSHP) is recommended.
  • Recent direct patient care experience preferred (at least 1 year within the last 3 years).
  • Experience with the provision of comprehensive pharmaceutical care within the hospital setting is preferred.
  • Hospital pharmacy residency and prior hospital experience is preferred.
  • Recent experience as a member of a multidisciplinary patient health care team is preferred.
  • 2 to 4 years clinical experience within a specialized program area is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to use evidence-based medicine in direct patient care.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy for drug information and word processing.
  • Experience with computer medication order entry, IV admixture, Chemotherapy admixture and unit dose drug distribution is an asset.
  • Experience with Windows-based computer applications are an asset.
  • Demonstrated self-directed learning and continuing education.
  • Capable of making decisions and working independently.
  • Demonstrated good time management, including ability to switch priorities and multitask.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills, good organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Able to work both independently and cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Fluency in the English language (both written and verbal).
  • Personal and professional accountability.
