The Access Mental Health (AMH) Mental Health Clinician is a member of a multidisciplinary team that works in an integrated and collaborative way to improve access to information and supports concerning addiction/mental health issues. The team is comprised of registered nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists and social workers. All AMH clinicians share a common approach to providing telephone screening while each contributing their own discipline specific competencies. AMH services the public across the age continuum in the Calgary Zone.

Qualifications:
EDUCATION:

  • Undergraduate degree in Behavioural or Social Sciences required
  • Graduate degree preferred
  • Full current professional registration with a regulated body under the Health Professions Act required

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 2 years direct experience working in the field of addiction/mental health
  • Related experience working in community and crisis settings
  • Strong working knowledge of addiction/mental health disorders across the age continuum
  • Experience with the DSM-IV and V multi-axial diagnostic system

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Strong working knowledge of the addiction/mental health system and resources within AHS Calgary Zone and related resources in the Calgary community
  • Strong critical thinking, assessment, and intervention skills including crisis intervention skills
  • Ability to manage a wide variety of clinical situations with varying levels of acuity and a heterogeneous client population
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively liaison with various professionals
  • Ability to work confidently, independently and within collaborative partnerships
  • Ability to thoroughly and accurately collect and document information in a timely manner
  • Minimum of 53 wpm (as supported by a typing test) and proficiency in computer navigation
  • Ability to supervise relevant student practicums as required and directed
  • Ability to work in a primarily sedentary job and highly structured work environment
