Working in close communication with the Manager, Provincial AP network and AP Charge Technologist, the incumbent provides leadership in QA operations of the AP Department at the QEII Hospital Laboratory as well as remote support for Bonnyville Health Centre laboratory. The Technologist II provides technical expertise and information to a variety of health care providers.
Responsibilities:
Assists the Charge Technologist in achieving appropriate levels of performance in the laboratory:
– Maintaining the College of Physicians and Surgeons Accreditation Standards
– Participating in Quality Assurance/Continuous Improvement activities
– Participating in the internal and external quality control programs
– Ensuring appropriate documentation is completed and results reviewed regularly
– Has working knowledge or obtaining lab specimens from patients using established laboratory techniques
Maintains quality control:
– Ensuring quality control procedures are performed
– Following established protocols and procedures
– Organizing and prioritizing work accordingly
– Documenting all information (including quality control) as required and stated in procedures
– Performing Quality Control as required
– Entering, reviewing and reporting patient results in an accurate, timely and efficient manner
– Assessing unusual test results and proceeds with established procedures and/or forwards to pathologist as required
– Reviewing files and quality control data monthly
– Assisting with the establishment of policies and procedures
– Following up/investigating and documenting of quality control problems
Maintains a safe and efficient working environment:
– Following all safety procedures as stated in safety manual and as established at site
– Following WHMIS regulations including appropriate labeling, storage and disposal of controlled substances
– Participating in the selection, evaluation of equipment and tests
– Participating in the preparation and updates of technical and procedure manuals (manuals reviewed annually)
Self-Learning:
– Participating in continuin g education activities
– Documenting courses completed (including certificates) in continuing education binder or in personnel file
Performs other related duties such as but not limited to:
– Meeting established deadlines and schedules effectively and efficiently
– Providing departmental coverage as required
In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.
Qualifications:
– CMLTA registration and a MLT Practice Permit as well as evidence of the appropriate CSMLS certification
– Graduation from a recognized Medical Laboratory Technology program
– Experience with decision-making and problem-solving skills
– Minimum of 3 years experience in the Anatomic Laboratory division
– Previous computer experience required. Meditech experience preferred
