As a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), you will provide an advanced level of nursing practice that maximizes the application of in-depth nursing theory, knowledge and skills in meeting the complex health care needs of individuals, families and communities. You will function as a nursing practice leader, consultant, expert practitioner, educator and researcher within a clinical specialty area. You will balance various roles depending upon the needs of the patient population and the healthcare team, collaborating on the provision of holistic and comprehensive care. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalent. Previous experience as a CNS. Minimum 5 years of experience within the past 7 years of acute pediatric nursing, working with patients with medical complexities required. Preferably within ACH. Demonstrated experience caring for patients with medical complexities including clinical care needs (inpatient and community), psychosocial needs. Minimum 3 years’ experience within the past 5 years in leadership positions required. Demonstrated skills in effectively leading teams within a continually changing health care environment. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative and trusting relationships with staff, the management team and member of the interdisciplinary team. Demonstrated problem solving, innovation, decision making, leadership, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills. Demonstrated flexibility, self-motivation, organizational skills and a variety of communication and collaboration skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with ability to effectively facilitate team communication and teaching to patients and families. Ability to promote, implement and evaluate change processes and utilize principals of change management. Proficiency with computers and advanced knowledge in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Internet.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated skills in mentoring, coaching and teaching. Demonstrated experience in program planning, implementation and evaluation. Demonstrated experience in development and revision of practice support documents/ standards of care. Creative thinking and the capability to provide positive, respective, supportive and constructive feedback to teams. Dedication/experience in enhancing Pediatric care through review of current research and literature on best and emerging practices.
