The Early Intervention Program (EIP) (Counselor 1) provides early intervention services to children with developmental concerns and children with diagnosed disabilities from birth to age 3 ½ years, and their families. The EIP Counselor works within family-centered principles, applying a strength-based, capacity building, inclusive framework to coach parents and other caregivers to positively influence child, parent and family developmental functioning, within the home and community environment. The EIP Counselor liaises with other health/early childhood development providers, services and agencies to coordinate continuity of care to clients and their families. The EIP Counselor facilitates community-based child and parent child-development intervention groups.

The EIP Counselor is required to pack, lift, move and transport heavy and/or awkward supplies to various work sites. Service delivery may require walking several blocks and climbing several flights of stairs, awkward movement, sitting, standing and/or bending for long periods of time.

Qualifications:

– Bachelor’s Degree in Family Studies, Community Rehabilitation, Psychology, Social Work, Child & Youth Care, or a child health-related field is required.
– Two years or greater experience working with children with disabilities, developmental delays and/or special needs preferred
– Experience working with diverse cultures and marginalized populations, with knowledge and understanding of the determinants of health is an asset
– Strong written and oral communication skills are required
– Strong analytical, critical thinking, decision making and organizations skills are required
– Ability to be self-directed
– Working knowledge of computer applications, including basic word processing, email, Internet access and data entry required
– This position requires a vehicle for business use. Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work-related travel is required.
