Addiction Services Edmonton (ASE) is seeking a Counselling Supervisor for its busy downtown outpatient clinic. Key areas of responsibilities in this challenging role will include clinical and administrative oversight of a team of Addiction Counsellors involved in a variety of programs and initiatives including individual, group, and family counselling. This position is also required to participate in the operational management of the unit on a rotating basis to effectively deal with crisis situations and to provide immediate consultation for staff. Other responsibilities include developing others through clinical supervision and coaching of counselling staff, involvement in capacity building projects, and strong project and change management skills.

Counselling Supervisors, as members of the ASE Leadership Team, ensure that treatment services meet client and community needs, provide high standards for service delivery, promote effective teamwork, and support positive relations with community partners. Strong leadership competencies, including demonstrated self-motivation and drive, previous clinical supervision experience, and professional verbal and written communication skills are requirements to be successful in this position. Working one evening shift per week is an expectation.

Qualifications:

– The successful candidate will preferably be a member of a professional regulatory body.
– Minimally the position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the Social Sciences or a related discipline plus significant experience working within the addiction and mental health fields.
– Working knowledge of best practices and extensive experience in the treatment of substance misuse/abuse and problem gambling, including the ability to apply a variety of counselling styles and techniques, is required.
– Prior experience working with individuals with concurrent disorders and previous training and experience in administrative and clinical oversight of counselling staff are essential to being successful in this position.
– Current First Aid/BCLS-HCP, Non-violent Crisis Intervention and ASIST suicide intervention training are all required.
