Job Purpose
Community Specialists (CS) are the face of the organization. They are allies and ambassadors. Together with individuals and families they create a safe, caring and community enriched life for individuals who hire us. Through planning and implementation Community Specialists support individuals to connect with their communities, establish real relationships and create meaningful days.
Reports to: Team Lead
Responsibilities
Provide direct support to adults in a group or 1:1 setting
Be an ally and ambassador to allow individuals to be active members in their own communities
Develop and facilitate genuine relationships
Provide purposeful support encouraging individuals to achieve their goals
Empower individuals to explore interests, uncover strengths and create meaningful days
Facilitate personal development, volunteer and employment opportunities
Communicate effectively with participants, parents, co-workers and supervisors
Be proactive in creating a safe environment and minimizing risks
Maintain and prepare reports and other documentation as required
Build a vision of inclusion, one person at a time
Qualifications
Education in relevant discipline
Experience in related field
A shared passion and vision with the organization
Strong organization skills, flexibility and problem solving abilities
Ability to connect with children and young adults who have special needs
Clear Security Clearance Check and Children and Youth Intervention Record Check
Must possess or be willing to obtain First Aid Certification including CPR, Beyond Behaviors, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Abuse Prevention and Response Protocol and Medication Administration.
Working Conditions
This full time position is primarily Monday to Friday, with the flexibility to respond and be available to individual’s needs outside of scheduled hours.
