As part of the Learning & Development team and reporting to the Manager, Aecon Learning, the Learning Specialist will partner with the business to identify learning gaps and create solutions that when incorporated into day-to-day operations will enable meaningful operational results. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES *Align with the business – Engage and collaborate with the business when new projects or requests are made for learning support to determine gaps and behavior changes required to support the development of relevant solutions.

  • Collaborative, creative solutions – Collaborating with peer Aecon University team resources and subject matter experts within the business to perform rigorous needs assessments, create relevant learning objectives, determine best-fit delivery methods, and build well-connected solutions that will be meaningful to end users and the business operations.
  • Engaging, learner focused – Creatively bring ideas to life, design and develop appropriate content for the selected delivery methods, including supporting materials and Train the trainer (T3) formats. Consider the full learning experience from the end users’ point of view.
  • Deploy a quality product – Facilitate end-user training, T3 sessions and pilot programs. Consider the logistics and potential obstacles for delivery and how to increase retention.
  • Measure for success – Collaborate with the business to determine best measurements of learning, behavior change and desired business impact. Stay involved with the feedback to ensure the evolution of programs to meet the evolving business.
  • Contribute as part of a team – Engage and support other Aecon University team members to ensure consistent design standards are applied and that maximum team performance is achieved, including creative design and flawless execution.
  • Role model a passion for excellence – Stay aware of industry trends and learning innovations, provide consultation on training materials, and be an active part of developing a learning culture at Aecon.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS *Extreme creativity and extreme collaboration is required

  • Relationship focused and socially “checked-in” to the rest of the team
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles, design techniques, and innovative courseware
  • 3 years experience with demonstrated results in the hands-on design of blended learning solutions (i.e. instructor-led, e-learning, m-learning, action learning, self-paced)
  • 3 years experience with SCORM compliant eLearning development using Articulate StoryLine
  • 3 years experience of engaging facilitation of technical courses to a varied demographic

  • Technical proficiency requirements
  • Advanced skills using Microsoft applications (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
  • Familiarity with Office365
  • Familiarity with Android and iOS
  • Lync/Telephone systems
  • SAP experience is a strong asset
  • Adobe Connect experience is an asset
  • Technically savvy
  • Project management of learning solution projects from assessment to post-deployment
  • Knowledge of WCAG 2.0 compliance is an asset
  • Prior exposure to the construction industry would be considered an asset
