AECOM is actively seeking a Junior Environmental Planner who is seeking experience and exposure to a wide variety of transportation-related projects, including transit and highways. This position may be based out of our Hamilton, Mississauga or Richmond Hill offices.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

Work with and support intermediate and senior Environmental Planners in carrying out Environmental Assessments and other approvals and permitting activities for transit (Metrolinx), highway (MTO), /or municipal transportation projects

Assist with coordinating, organizing, preparing for, attending, and documenting Environmental Team meetings

Coordinate consultation programs, including municipal, regulatory agency and First Nations engagement

Coordinate work of environmental specialists (i.e., fisheries, terrestrial, noise, air, archaeology, etc.)

Liaise with local, Provincial, and Federal agencies regarding permits and approvals

Coordinate EA implementation and Compliance Monitoring Programs

Research, conceptualize, plan, and write drafts of reports related to planning, design and permitting

Support business development efforts, including proposal writing

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree or College Certificate in Urban Planning, Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies or related field

3+ years of relevant work experience

Familiar with Fisheries Act, Endangered Species Act, Navigation Protection Act, Environmental Protection Act and other relevant legislation

Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)

Strong problem solving skills and ability to work well with people

Class A driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

Eligibility for membership in Ontario Professional Planners Institute and Canadian Institute of Planners (RPP and MCIP)

Experience working on transit and highway / road projects

Experience with MTO Class EA and/or Individual EA processes and projects, and/or experience with Metrolinx TPAP process and projects

Familiarity with the Ontario Environmental Assessment (EA) Act, the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA), Fisheries Act, Endangered Species Act, Navigation Protection Act, Environmental Protection Act and other relevant legislation

Knowledge of other relevant Ontario Legislation and Provincial Policy (i.e., the Planning Act, the Greenbelt Act, etc.)
